I bought this book because my nine-year-old loves Chopin. Unfortunately when she started playing with this book on her first piece "Nocturn C Sharp Minor", we discovered many publishing errors in the notes. At first we thought it was just a minor one when she found the first mistake. As she continued to work on the piece, she discovered more and more of them. Her music teacher was so shocked that this book has that many publishing errors. After having to correcting so many errors on the notes we decided it was no longer worth our effort anymore since the marking just gets too confusing on a brand new book that we thought would be better than a sheet music downloaded on the internet. I passed the deadline to return so this book is just sitting here collecting dust, as I don't want my child to play any of the pieces any more to find out more mistakes in the notes that she will have to correct accordingly later. It is such a waste of time. We now only buys books published by Urtext, although it is more expensive. It is worth it. If you are 9nly learning the pieces for fun this book will be okay. But for a serious student or pianist who enters competitions and performs for large audience, mistakes in notes for classical pieces by a famous composer are simply not acceptable.

There is a lot of value with this set, given the number of pieces enclosed. But when I realised that the C# minor Nocturne had mistakes, I lost trust that there weren’t other mistakes. The mistakes were obvious, missing a trill here, or incorrect chords there. If it was just one mistake then I could overlook it but that piece had several. So I couldn’t trust that the other pieces would be accurate. I scanned other pieces and didn’t find any glaring errors but it was only a handful. I had to return it.

I've been learning Chopin from the online resources before I decided to get a proper sheet music book one day. I got this book so long ago but I just came back to write this review. As many others already noted, Nocturne C# Minor has shocking errors. I have a sharp ear for Chopin because I've been listening to his work for long time. I trusted Schirmer's so much so that I was following the notes and it sounded terribly off at some points. I doubted myself for a while. After some research online, I saw that the sheet music printed in this book is wrong. Mistakes start as early as 8th bar. (D instead of F) I was really happy when I first received this book, but how can I trust it from now on seeing this? It'll be going to recycling soon sadly..

It's a bargain! Look at all the music you get for a relatively low price - over 200 pages of some of the greatest piano music ever written! The notes are very clear and the music is easy to read. It is not recommended for beginners but should be accessible for intermediate students and above. Highly recommended.

My husband is a classical pianist and loved this book when I gave it to him for Christmas. Indeed, it has the complete set of Chopin's preludes as listed and, in terms of the physical copy's condition, it arrived on time and with no damage (sometimes when I have paperback books shipped, they end up with some bends and knicks. I am very nitpicking about this so I'm glad to see this one arrive in prestige condition).

Wonderful with the spiral binding! I've gone through some of the pieces, putting removable tabs on the ones I can play with a bit of practice plus playing others so slow and agonizingly that they're quite unrecognizable. The print is a good size and very clear which is important when you have to stare at the page as hard as I do. Seller was very prompt and I'm thrilled to not have to fight with keeping the book open. Thank you!

I've grown up with Schirmer's music books and this one is just exceptional. I noticed the text on some music I've been playing for 15 years from another Schirmer's book I've had for 30 years, is larger. Interesting how such a seemingly small thing can really affect how one plays. Not bad, but when I noticed my eye scan was disoriented I soon realized what it was. The selection in this book is wonderful, and what one would expect from a selection of Chopin. The book is very high quality, as would be expected. Lays open beautifully. Such a joy to flip through and select. Not fighting with binding. I love their books, will always choose them if available. Again, I've had the same ones since I was 3 years old, grew up with my mother playing them, then me. Now, I'm finally buying more books and I'm so happy the quality hasn't changed from them. This book is such a joy to play.Side note: as usual, the fingerings are mentioned, but I did notice some of the alternate note descriptions are not as abundant as my much older copies. Doesn't seem to effect the quality and beauty of the music. And for those not acquainted, the fingerings suggested in Schirmer's books are really well done. I find them very useful and natural to best playing.

A great selection of a few of Chopin's best masterpieces. A quick glance through the music sheets gives me a favorable impression of the transcription too - "favorable", meaning it's not too simplified (hence suffers the suspicion of being sham), and it's not too technically demanding either. Given I play the-least-simplified version of Kanon, Croatian Rhapsody, a few Bach's variations relatively well, I don't think I will struggle too much. I hope this description can give a relatively good sense of the level of the transcription.
