Statistical tools and methodologies used by Six Sigma are not new but generally have been reserved for Quality and Engineering functions. My training and experience with Six Sigma crossed paths with employees across all departments - Buyers, Supervisors, floor employees, Human Resources, Finance, as well as Quality and Engineering personnel.What makes "Implementing Six Sigma" significant is you do not have to be an expert in statistics or even in the Quality field to understand and implement the tools of Six Sigma. Forrest details and further defines the tools in an easy to read format, plenty of exercises and examples, and a thorough appendix. I didn't discover this book until recently and have since replaced over a dozen reference books.Depending on the problem at hand, tool usage varies and not all are applicable (to one's project) or taught in training. I had excellent Black Belt instructors but Forrest's book would have come in handy during my training and would have been an invaluable resource when facilitating Green Belt training. Recommended for those new, and not so new, to Six Sigma.

In it's current form it may very well be the most comprehensive source of information about the practical application of statistical techniques in Six Sigma work. Like the previous edition, it is a highly informative book that illustrates how to tightly integrate balanced scorecard metrics with improvement techniques, to include Lean, Six Sigma, and theory of constraints (TOC) tools. After teaching and consulting for more than twenty years, I find the most challenging part of training industry people is delivering statistical tools to them in the right amount and at the right level. Too little or too low, they learn only superficially. Too much or too high, they get discouraged and turn off. This book presents topics in a way that is near optimum, given the wide range of audience it is supposed to reach. The style of presentation is also attractive. This is the best single volume on statistics-oriented Six Sigma methodologies that I have come across so far.

This is not a book about six sigma, but on statistical methods. The two first chapters deal with six sigma methodology but this is all. The rest of the book is simply a summary of several statistical tools (SPC, DOE, etc.), with several example taken from other books. If you are familiar with statistical methods, this book will not help will you to implement six sigma in your company. Better forget it.

I have to say this is the most detailed book ever written on six sigma. I have read other books on ss - as i'm preparing for my ASQ ss green belt - but havent found them to be more in depth than this, especially on the technical side. I would recommend this book for all ss practitioners and who need to have a reference guide book on their desktops!I wish the newer edition would contain less typos and to be more clear. More examples are needed, and lots of case studies as wellAll in all, its an excellent book!
