This is written in the same style as my favorite book, A Year In Provence, by Peter Mayle. The descriptions of Majorca and its people are incredible. It makes me want to be there.

Very enjoyable, entertaining book. I laughed out loud in many sections and look forward to Peter Kerr's sequel. Makes Mallorca sound beautiful but not sure I'd want to take on owning a farm there!

A great read. After reading Thistle Soup I didn't expect this , which sounded a bit like a travel book, to be half as entertaining as it was. I am always sorry when I come to the end of it.

Slow start but got better and better. The characters were engaging and the situations comical. Most expats will relate to this.

What a fascinating and charming memoir this is. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially all the great local characters. Pep, Rafael and Juan Juan were instant favourites. This is a lively, warm and humorous read that gives great insights into what real life in Mallorca is like away from all the tourist spots. I would have liked to learn a bit more about how the farm developed as being a farmer, it was a surprise that the author seemed to know so little, but maybe that’s in another memoir.

I love reading about people and their lives in other parts of the world. Throw in that I have a friend with a place in Majorca and this became a must read.This is very much in the same vein as "A year in Proviance", "On Tuscan Time" or the best of the bunch "The Caliph's House" (about renovating a house in Casablanca). While it has some insights and some funny bits (like his neighbor cleaning his chimney with a live chicken), its very much a me-too book. Also the author has chosen to write 4 books about his time in Majorca which makes the whole thing a bit of a stretch.So its O.K., but the other books noted were much better.

This is a comfortable book, a book that will either make you want to visit Spain or return there, depending on your perspective. The author's subtle humor and self-deprecating way won me over and I encourage anyone with an interest in Spain to read this book. A nice cool glass of sangría will only enhance the experience.

I bought this book two days ago and have to say that I have strugglled to put it down since. For anyone with an interest in travel and the charismatic characters one meets this is an essential read. It is written in almost a novel format and whilst this does much to enrich the individual chapters I did feel that this style did mean that some of the warmth of the principal characters was lost.In this sense it fell short of other books in the genre, notably Chris Stewart's Driving over lemons. However, Kerr's detailed descriptions of his neigbours were a pleasue to read. At times it is laugh out loud funny and just looking at the next paragraph would prompt another outburst. A good read. Now where is my passport?
