I just finished reading The Death of Reliability. When I first saw the book, I was intrigued by the cover. I was also concerned that since it was written by a doctor it would be full of big words and fancy sounding programs. I have read many of these types of books and set in many courses on this topic and the one thing they all have in common is they are based on theory. The difference in this book is Dr. Wright has done the things outlined in the book. So there are no theories just real world accounts and success and how to accomplish it. A surprise for me was the eye opening insight into how we have gotten into the mess we are in and what we can do about it. The organizations I have worked for all suffer from a majority failures that Dr. Wright discusses. I plan to recommend this book to my senior leaders in hopes they will realize their lack of knowledge and maybe embrace Dr. Wright's approach. I recommend this book to anyone in the workforce, not just maintenance and reliability.

I was fortunate enough to be able to work for Nate multiple times. Nate was an incredible mentor to me. As a young man aspiring to be an engineer, I cannot thank Nate enough for what he has taught me. I witnessed Nate develop programs and processes that not only benefited equipment and the company, but also the employees. With great leadership skills, experience, knowledge, and certifications; Nate is a man that pushes to accomplish goals which involve everyone around him. Still being in school unsure of where my career is headed, Nate helped formulate some thought on my future. Not everything is taught in the classroom, the rest is something that comes from years of experience and hands on work. Many lessons from Nate will be carried on and hopefully implemented wherever I end up. I can thank Nate for playing such a huge role in shaping how I look and think about lubrication and maintenance reliability. This book is a great read for young, soon-to-be engineers.

I just finished reading this book. I have over 20 years in maintenance and have seen many of the same issues Dr. Wright talks about in his book. I agree that leadership is killing the skilled trades. When I started out I was lucky to work for a Maintenance Manager who had risen through the ranks. There was not much he did not know. The journeymen who helped me through my apprenticeship were also experienced and knowledgeable. Now I am one of those senior journeyman, but since I do not have an engineering degree, I cannot move up into a titled position. Notice I do not say leadership position. My supervisors and managers have no hands-on experience. Their engineering degrees do not make them someone I can go to when stumped. If the few of us with experience cannot figure it out we have to call in experts (people with more experience). As the experience guys leave they take the only knowledge with them. Dr. Wright is exactly right in this book. Senior leaders need to wake up and realize that education is a plus but should not be what they seek. Experience is the true education and without it I agree the end is near. Thank you, Dr. Wright, for writing down what the others who write these books are not able to. Either they are afraid to say it or because they are examples of it.

This book was very straightforward with the issues Dr. Nathan Wright recognized through years of experience which is all encompassing. Author's experience from working on equipment to maintenance manager for large companies and tremendous leadership skills makes this book a must read for anyone involved in maintenance, engineering and management. Being a Certified Lubrication Specialist it is refreshing Dr.Nathan Wright recognized the true value of not just the application of lubricants but also premium quality products and support provided by supplier will make a tremendous impact on overall reliability. He covers complacency as another downfall. Many take this easy path, miss opportunities, and die on the vine prematurely. It is written in a simple straightforward format anyone can understand. Don't be reactive get your copy today.

If I had one word to describe this book it would be "practical". Unlike so many books you see today that are filled with frustrating "fluff", in The Death of Reliability, Nathan Wright literally conducts a cover-to-cover brain dump of practical wisdom. I read a lot of books, but I'm rarely compelled to write a book review. Here's what I especially like about the book:His focus on "blocking and tackling". If you don't get lubrication, installation and contamination control right, reliability will not follow.His discussion and recommendations on working with and managing vendors and consultants.Dozens of potential pitfalls and minefields he points out. It's obvious he's taken his lumps and learned from them.

I just finished this book and Nathan is spot on with his view of what it takes to have a good Reliability program.This is a must read for anyone involved with Reliability in the work place.He has spent the time in the field working on this process so he knows first hand how it works.Nathan takes it back to basics on what is needed to put a good program in place in any process plant.

To be honest I thought this book would be a boring read but by the time I had read thru the first chapter I found myself wanting to read more. The writer did not take the road so many authors like this take. They want you to feel they are right and you are wrong in your thinking. Dr Wright writes in a way that gets you to thinking about where you can make changes and what you already know works but needs tweaked a little. I was very impressed with his honesty throughout the book. Can not wait to read his next book.
