I bought it as a quick reference for my son on the history of computing. While it does give a good overall thumbnail history on computers, I got the impression the author was definitely an Apple fan and therefore struggled to neutrally cover anything relating to Bill Gates. In fact, he and Microsoft only get brief mentions on a couple of pages, which was a huge disappointment to my middle school-aged son who recently did a project on Bill Gates and is, of course, a huge fan of both PC gaming and programming, as well as his Xbox. This would've gotten four stars from me if there had been a little bit more coverage on Gates' and Microsoft's role in the development of modern computing. As it is, I almost got the feeling that the mentions that were included were only there because the author knew he couldn't leave them out altogether. In spite of me giving it three stars, I do still think it's worth having if you're interested in computers and tech history.
Great overview on computer history !... This book is definitely not the ultimate reference for computer history in terms of tech details, but it is an awesome compilation of images that meet the purpose to get you over the progress of technology... The pictures are where the real value is of the book, and even thought the little detail in terms of historical facts (and maybe even some imprecisions) this piece is a valuable add to any vintage computer enthusiast collection.
Great fun. The story is always interesting; the photos enjoyable. No more need be said. I give it 4 stars.
Bought this for a gift. Came very quickly
My Dad is THE biggest computer geek, and he loved this book! He actually owned a lot of the computers featured in here at one time or another. Would highly recommend for that nerd in you life!
Informative and easy to read. I like the history of computers but there's not many books on this. Wish there was more.
ok, kind of boring , doesn't get going till the latter chapters , once computers became smaller and memory became bigger.
I have to question the accuracy of this book simply because they put Steve Jobs on the cover. Steve actually had little to nothing to do with the evolution of computers. At Apple, he was simply the marketing person behind Wozniak's technical genius. The GUI was developed at Xerox PARC - not Apple. Both Jobs and Gates attended The Mother of all Demos and stole most of their ideas from there.
